When I started my soup making business from my home kitchen in January 2015, I was mocked and some said the business won’t last. This morning we cooked 20 litres of rice, 10 litres onugbu soup, 10 litres ugba, 10 litres plantain mix, mini cooler moi moi and peppered chicken and beef. All these between 4am and 7am and the meals ordered by a Facebook friend based in United Kingdom for her parents’ party in Anambra State today are on their way to be delivered.
The first order I took was on 3rd January 2015 and delivered to Abuja, we have made meals sent to Awka, Kano, Abuja, Lagos, Aba, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Warri, Benin, Adaba, Onitsha, Umuahia, Oraifite, Alor, Nibo, Nsukka, and we have had soups flown to London, Geneva and US from our Enugu kitchen. We have catered for events in neighboring states and within Enugu.
I run online cooking classes using Facebook. Some classes are paid for while some are at no cost.
We have made mistakes, lost money, met difficult folks, learnt, self-corrected and improved.
My biological children have learnt on the job and the two older ones cook well and the six year old begs me to allow her cook too.
We started small, we have grown and still growing. It’s not easy but it’s fun riding the storms!!
What are you gifted to do? What do you do? Don’t despise the days of your little beginning. Be steadfast and focused and treat your clients right, you will succeed. It’s not the only thing I do. I practice law and a lawyer of almost 20 years post call, I am an author, a writer and a well-paid public speaker. I cook the soups myself. Stockfish, ọgili, fish and all do smell but they are goldmines too. So I cook smelly stuff and make money that’s not smelly.
Stop wondering what people will say about your source of income and then you hide it, don’t be ashamed of it either. Make the money, solve problems, live a good life. You owe no one any explanation!!!
