She keeps an eye on me

by Aug 10, 2020

I left Daniella in the kitchen and came downstairs to write and review a report emailed to me by a mentee. Few minutes after she came halfway down and peeped. When I noticed she was peeping, I waved at her and she threw her first question at me.

Daniella: mommy, how’s the sugar?

Me: sugar? You want sugar?
You have never used sugar from birth so why ask me for it now?

Daniella: no mommyπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ‘. Your blood sugar oooo.

Me: Ohhhhhh!!! My darling, you’re holding me accountable ooooo. I just measured and it’s 114. It’s good. The reading is good. It is within the range. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Daniella: ok good. I wanted to know. I just want to know because I don’t want you to die. I don’t want my mom to die. Mommy don’t die ooooooo!

Me: I will not die inugo. I am fine and will be fine. I will live long and visit you for Omugwo. Thank you so much for being such a loving child. Get me my insulin ok? The one for morning.

Daniella: ok, I will do that ok? What’s omugwo?

Me: thank you. Errrmmmmm! When you get married and have a baby, I will visit you and take care of you and the baby.

(She hands the insulin pen over to me.)

Daniella: what?? I have 10 babies right now, come to my room and do the omugwo for us ok?

Me: πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ! Not with those baby dolls, I meant real babies.

Daniella: I am still a child ok? Don’t tell me about marriage and husband ok? Byeeee and don’t forget to test yourself after two hours, I am your nurse ok?

Me: yes nurse Daniella.

(I heaved a sigh of relief when she went upstairs)πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£

She’s 7 but she’s been able to hold me accountable and demand that I eat right, exercise and take my medication. She has kept me on my toes in my management of diabetes especially in the past five months! Who could have believed? My miracle on the Hudson!

Daniella is amazing. Her level of reasoning is high and I love it. She truly looks after you and reminding you to check your blood sugar level touched my heart. Some of her diaries remind me of myself when I was a little girl. God bless her and her mummy.

It important to have good people around us that keep us accountable. Danny has taken up the mantle, she is such a wonderful and fun baby girl. Children are great imitators. So give them something great to imitate
