Daniella told Aunt Ify and I that she’s searching for a job. We were both startled and asked simultaneously what she needed the job for.
Daniella: I want to get a job and work and make money to give good things to the widows in Enugu. I want them to be happy. Some of them are sad. Ok? Some of them are sad and crying.
Me: OMG! How did she know?
Ify and I were taken aback. A job not to fend for herself but to shop for widows. Such a kind-hearted child.
Few minutes after this conversation I went down to my room and sat thinking about the life of this child and what she’s been through. I thought about how my academics and career had to be placed on hold to ensure she lives a great and better life.
I remembered the fall she had in May 2017. She fell and broke her left arm in our Enugu home and underwent 3 surgeries. Three surgeries and in two out of the three, she was said to have passed out on the operating table and was resuscitated! May to December 2017 are months I remember with tears and mixed feelings. I also clap my hands-on thanksgiving to God for those months. He gave me so much strength and surrounded me with people who ensured I didn’t lose it! The money spent to fund the surgeries, the physiotherapy sessions and the uncertainties! God made provisions! God shielded her! She was strong and resilient through it all.
She’s known pain and has developed compassion. When she requested my permission and support to host an outreach for children of widows in Enugu city, I resisted it and told her to shut the idea down. If only I knew it was ordained!
Ever since I agreed on her taking up this assignment, she shares her ideas regularly. She has packed clothes and shoes for widows’ children and she has not accepted any fruit snacks from her snacks pack. Each time I offered a pack to her, she politely turned it down and asked me to keep it for the outreach. She told me she wants to give the children some American snacks!
Few mornings ago, she was busy typing on my phone note and when I inquired to know what she was busy with, she told me she was typing her sermon for her outreach. I got curious the more and asked to know the topic of the sermon and she told me that it was “the goodness of God.”
What topic could be better? Her life is evidence of God’s goodness. It has not been an easy ride! It was rough and turbulent till the final battle in 2018. The goodness of God is real and not a fairy tale.
As I thought about the above, she walked in and the following conversation took place:
Daniella: mom, thank you for being a good mom to me ok? Thank you for taking care of me to make sure I didn’t die. I will find you a husband. You need a husband. You must have a husbandoo. Wait let me call my cousins to tell them to find you a husband in Enugu.
Me: ahhhhhh! Why Enugu? We are in New York and you want me to go to Enugu for a husband? Danny why?
Danny: this my mom is something else. You like goat head? Mom?
Me: 
Danny: you don’t wanna say anything? You don’t have goat head here. Goat head is in Enugu
!
Me: biko I don’t want husband ooooo. I want to make big money. I am fine ok?
. And I don’t eat goat head these days. My doctor asked me to stop, it’s not good for my health.
Danny: ok mom, that’s fine. That’s fine. I don’t want you to die ok? Let me go to my room and change my baby’s diaper ok? He likes to pee every time. He doesn’t listen to me to go use the bathroom. I will be back ok?
Me: please don’t come back. Your baby needs you. Bathe him and change his diaper and feed him so he goes to bed.
Dear Lord, keep her in that room for as long as you can! 
Hahahah! Your love for Isi Ewu determines where your husband is coming from. My sister you need to start to like some New York food ohhh 😀😀😀!!
